overclocking help on E6420

Thread Starter
Ok so i bought a new system with overclocking in mind and started to overclock. got it to 3200mhz orthos stable for 5 1/2 hours so i increased fsb to 410 go into orthos and it lasts about 30 mins before it stops its self saying there is an error.

In the memory tab in CPU-Z there is nothing and then in the SPD tab it tells me it is running at 400mhz and timings of 4-4-3-5 on 2T but in the bios it tells me it is 820 mhz and i changed the timings to 4-4-4-12 on 2T. i haven't touched the voltages yet temps are fine all around 31/32 load
what is stopping me?

system is as below

I think what technik was asking was what are you using to monitor the temperatures?

If you're only at 31/32C under load, I'd definitely bump up the voltages and try again at a higher FSB.

Wow great cooler, those reviews really haven't exaggerated the cooling power of the Ultra-120 eXteme. I'm hoping to get around 3.2Ghz on a similar setup as yours. I would deff give it a bump to 1.4v and try again.
More liek great chip to get to 3.2ghz without increasing vcore.

ok i downloaded cpuz 1.4 cos i had 1.38 and now it tell me my memory which is good but on the cpu tab it says that my multiplier is 6 so i have a speed of 2400mhz AHHH. and it is actually 8 so 3200mhz, core temp and orthos say that and so does my bios getting screenshots now

edit: while looking at cpuz it flicks between a 6 multiplier, 2400mhz and 8 multiplier, 3200mhz

To get rid of the fluctuation, you'll need to disable the following things within the bios:

C1E Support
Intel SpeedStep Technology
Spread Spectrum
