WiiConnect24

Thread Starter
Everyone who owns a Wii: make sure you don't leave WiiConnect24 on standby. It ruins the Wii by keeping the power on and not the fans to cool the Wii. Mine busted 2 hours ago.

that is true of all electronics....even computers. NEVER LEAVE YOUR STUFF ON IF YOU ARE NOT USING IT.

I turn EVERYTHING off when no one is using it.

I leave my PCs on 24x7x365. Have been doing it for years. No issues, at least none that can be attributed to leaving them on all the time.

My Wii has been on standby constantly since December 8th, launch day here in Ireland, and it's still working perfectly...
mine also been on 24/7, but since nov 19. US launch day, and never had any sort of problems. i think your case might just be a coincidence, either way its under warranty so send it back

The Wii gets warm when WiiConnect 24 is on but as long as you have it on that grey piece that came with the Wii and its not on carpet it should be fine. Those temps shouldn't hurt any components inside.

Actually there is more stress put on electrical components when your switch them on. The stress of current being re-introduced into a PCB does stress the components. Leaving a system on is actually better !.

Maybe you had a brown out or some type of surge in the power line that killed it?
