Installation orientation help

Thread Starter
Just bought a Thermaltake V1:

I'm not sure if it's possible but seeing as it uses pushpin mounting, i assume it can be oriented either vertically or horizontally on the motherboard. This would lead to one of two situations:

Horizontal (Purple): Air flows from bottom to top of case and out top fan.
Vertical (Red): Air flows from left to right of case and out left fan.

Picture of an Antec900 from the internet (extended graphics card to size of mine):

Which would be better for airflow in my case? Blue circles are my fans, all fans are 120mm except top fan which is 200mm. bottom left two are intake, top left corner fans are outtake.

More on topic, optimally the air should blow out the back. It can blow out the top but your temps won't be as good.

Go MS Paint skills..

I posted a picture of the inside of an antec nine hundred...why do you say temps will be better going through back rather than top?

What does the manufacturer recommend? They usually have a suggested way to mount them. If there are heatpipes in it, those usually need to be oriented a certain way. RTM?

Personal experience. I originally had my Noctua tower cooler blowing out the back and had very good temps. Don't remember what they were though. When I got my 680i board, I could not mount it that way, I had to mount it so that it was blowing out the top of the case and my temps have never been the same, idle overclocked around 40C or so, now about 44C in the summer and not at school anymore.
To top it all off I just got a quad so my temps are all over the place.

I have good airflow I think, but look at the picture of the antec 900 and the grey bar representing my videocard...its kind of long so i dunno how much that hurts the airflow. however the cabling is modular in my case so its pretty clean.

@saxahonker, sorry i don't understand -> are you saying you got better temps or worse temps after switching to blow air out the top?

Sorry about that. I wrote that just as I got to work and obviously was not really awake.
I got worse temps when blowing the air out the top. By a few degrees...maybe 3-5C, I'm not really sure anymore.
It was a while ago.
