X1950PRO - Green lines

Thread Starter
Hey guys

I have a Sapphire X1950Pro (not OC'd) and when ever i play a movie the screen flashes and a load of green lines appear over my desktop for a split second then disappear and the movie plays - whats that all about ? is it damaged ?

also if i try and overclock the card the same green lines appear until i put the settings back to stock (no matter how much/little i try and overclock) - is this related ?

(i've been using ATI catalyst up to now but i'm gonna try tray tools later on tonight)

Thanks
Mufasa

ATITools seems to work best for me using the "use driver level overclocking" setting!

Those green lines are artifacts. They can be caused by an overclock that is too high on the core and memory, and also for the temperature, check your temps!

That didn't even dawn on me there Emmanuel. I know when I first got my Sapphire card, the HSF wasn't setting all the way down onto the chipset. The temps would climb into the low 90ºC area when under load, but no artifacting!

It really depends, if the temp reaches the core slowdown, hell yeah you can have artifacting.

according to ATI catalyst my temp idles at 38-40C when at sotck settings, however i get the green lines/artifacts even if i only raise the clock speed by the minimum possible (2MHz).

as mentioned above it also happens for a split second whenever i start playing a movie (at stock settings) but then the rest of the movie plays flawlessly.

I've found that ATI Catalyst Control Center is BAD when it comes to the X1950Pro's. I haven't used it in over 5 months and I can OC my card much better without it. ATITool having the settings "use driver level overclock" I've found to be the best stable (non-artifacting) 621mhz core and 768mhz mem (1536 effective) on my particular card. I've also found that overclocking these cards really makes little difference except when benchmarking. Good Luck!

Yes ATI cards aren't happy being overclocked sometimes that and he is right you don't notice most overclocking differences until you bench it.
