Do you use STANDBY (S3) on your overclocked motherboard??

Thread Starter
I've got an E6320 mildly overclocked to 2.8GHz (that's all she's good for ) on a P35K vanilla.
When I run the FSB at stock 266, standby works and resumes properly.
When I run the FSB at 400, standby fails to resume properly, it just locks up.
What settings have you guys used to get S3 working properly??
I'm kicking around ideas like turning off C1E or Speedstep or increasing vcore...but I'm looking for knowledge first!

Thanks

you OC without turning off C1E? good luck LOL

jk its cool

anyway here's knowledge: C1E and speedstep decrease voltage to CPU when its not in use. When the CPU is oc'd it needs more volts. an OC'd cpu not in use with C1E and speedstep enabled is at very low volts; as soon as it gets a load and starts using all xxxx cycles (MHz) then it needs more voltage right away, instantaneously and it cant change that fast. it doesnt give it the voltage cause it was autolowered and not enough time for it to give more...so it locks up.

same with hibernation. use my above example replace "when its not in use" with "when its hibernating"

Okay. A couple terminology clarifications: I'm using STANDBY (S3), not hibernate (S4, hibernate works fine on the machine).

My system drops from stock 7x multiplier down to 6x and back (and maybe drops the volts too?) back and forth all day long without any stability issues...I've monitored this with multiple tools...But, it does NOT resume from STANDBY successfully. FWIW- I initially disabled C1E when I was finding out what my CPU was capable of, but have since turned it back on in an effort to save energy where it doesn't cost me anything.

I will try to disable C1E to see if it has any effect on my ability to STANDBY- thanks for the suggestion.

Okay thanks.
Now, any P5K peeps out there with success??
I called ASUS tech support (I know ) and they had wonderful suggestions: 1) New PS 2) RMA the board....it's amazing how quickly they will deal with an RMA!? I really don't want to tear this thing down, anyone? anyone? Buller?

It's fixed.
BIOS 507 released and fixes my problem....
Why couldn't anyone even tell me they were working on it??
I called tech support twice. One guy told me to RMA the board, the other one said "Yeah, that kinda stuff happens when you overclock...I'd recommend using AI instead of BIOS overclocking..."
It sure would be nice to know what issues they are actively working on in the BIOS!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway, it's fixed now, thanks to ASUS.

I don't use S3 Standby for the simple reason that there is a nVidia bug in Vista which will crash your display driver as soon as you wake your PC up again until you reboot.
