SOLVED: Dying hard drive or bad OC?

Thread Starter
Ok so just recently my computer has been freezing up randomly. I've noticed that it freezes when I have music playing, gaming, or sometimes just doing nothing.

I ran a scndsk and it came up perfectly fine. I've had this 2.7GHz OC since March and nothing ever happened up until now. Could it be that the amount of music I play(play it during games, surfing, I always have music running) is starting to stress my hard drive?

Like right now it's fine, but I don't have a clue. If worse comes to worse I can go stop by Best Buy(yeah, yeah...) and snag a new WD but wanted to hear some of your guys' thoughts first.

Thanks much.

No, but I was thinking of trying that(just too lazy to hit "Default" ).

I don't see how constantly playing your music could stress the HD to point of death, it's only like 4-5mb at a time, unless you'rel istening to FLAC then its something around 50MB.. but even so.

Have you tried downloading like HDTach or some other program to check your HD's health? WD's own HD utility perhaps?

jihad 4 lyf btw.

Could be your PSU. I've had computers do that before the PSU gave out. (just a thought as that is a common symtom of the PSU going caputz)

I always forgot to add things. That too. That was my first guess on why I was freezing.

It's a weird freeze though. My music will start looping a second over and over and I can still move my mouse around and click stuff. But as soon as I click stuff, what ever I clicked freezes. If I press start the menu gets frozen open and I have to do a hard shutdown.

My HDTach is below.

Hmm that looks normal.

How about SpeedFan's S.M.A.R.T tab readings?

I agree about the PSU thing somewhat, but I had a PSU problem on my old PC but my PC did hard reboots and didn't just freeze.

I'll snag the SpeedFan in a sec.

I actually just froze after posting that last post. Everything is now at stock and I have nothing overclocked.
