AMD CEO Speaks Out Against Intel's "Illegal Tactics" - Page 6

That being a possibility. what we're talking about is the fact that one of these "wolves hungry for green" has given to us less over the years, has not pushed computing foward as much as it could easily, and is a bigger monopolist than the other...

understand?

Whether or not that will change is debatable - but the fact is that they've not proven to be that kind of company - and if any, CERTAINLY not to the degree that intel has manifested itself to over the years.
Maybe my statement seems less unfounded now??? I see AMD and intel as the same no better no worse both doing whatever they can to make more money(something businesses are known for). But from your posts its fairly obvious you have a soft spot for AMD,which is fine.[/QUOTE]

True that.

I believe there are more players in the microprocessor arena than just AMD and intel. Hopefully IBM, Sony, TI or someone else will get something totally new to market. Truth is I'm tired of this two dogged race, competition is great indeed and we need more players.

Just for the record, one of the reasons Apple moved to Intel was due to the next gen consoles making deals with IBM. IBM would have had a hard time keeping up with demand.

A while a go AMD was in the same seat as Intel. THen intel pushed forward and im sure AMD will evtually as well. But what AMD tried to do (BECOME THE HERO) by buying Ati and trying to compete on two fronts when there original was already in trouble was just plain BAD Business. Buying Ati was the worst move as they have to now spend more money to make a product which (possibly) will be worse as they are trying to do two jobs instead of just 1. If AMD just stuck to making chips i dont think they would have been in as bad a shape now.

But as they have to compete wiht Nvidia and Intel it makes their life that much harder

When I became a certified AMD solutions provider member back in 2006 and i found out AMD was buying ATI ........... I was like WTH its been AMD / Nvidia combo for best gaming for years and they go and buy ATI!!!

I assume someone was smoking crack at that board meeting...."WE SHOULD BUY ATI" and everyone else was to scared to say nae so it passed!

It was mostly the "stuck on the notion of choice" part that seemed.. unbased to me..

And one that I will not hide/ nor have I sought to. For the obvious reasons.

Back in the early Pentium days, if it wasnt for the K6s - I could NEVER have myself a PC.
And today - I wouldnt know crap about them maybe

Tell me this - cancelling all the tactics/alleged reasons/wolvenship ()
Isnt it true - that thorought the years, amd has made and given products that were faster, yet cheaper? (more bang for buck)?

Assuming that you're honest ("YES") - thats the core of my liking the company over intel - who didnt care shat.
NONE OF THIS is to say - that both companies, dont want our money.
Its just their principles and attitudes, and the need for competition that is under my microscope.
And the latest speculation of that of ONE of them - reveals that they are seeking to totally eradicate the competition - not by superior products (alone) but by user its ... monstership - to overwhelm.. and squeeze out..

true, but in a nutshell.

MAN!.,.... I surely hope we stick with at least only 3 sockets lol (MOBO manufacturers would have to take the lead there!)

Well, without having (or wanting ) to respond to the rest of your post I'll say this.

I've never hid the fact that I prefer AMD as a company over Intel
I just like to state the reasons and the logic CLEARLY.

I mean - my argument really guys is.

I dont like how Intel is going about eliminating its competition.
It should be SOLELY about who has teh better product.

Not all these undermining tactics.
And using their power /start aqquired over the years before AMD, to sort of... bully.
in the name of competition, lets keep it about who has teh better Chip.
AND ONLY about that.

Actually Alienware favors AMD. They are the only company i have seen do so but even then it is only in the laptop department. Although Dell has bought them out well see how much longer it'll be before Dell noticed and changes their web page to make it "Intel fanboy friendly."

... well you guys in the good US of A have laws to make sure everybody plays nice (in South Africa we almost only have monopolies and it hurts... we are only getting a second fix line telephone operator now... no wonder very few people have broadband) and I hope that any irregularities in the way the companies are doing business are addressed and that they will continue to tear at each others throats for many years to come... (if it wasn't for this we would still be sub 1Ghz... ah the good old days...)...

We have our issues (big enough at present to drive most people out of the country) but I love it and would be very sad the day I was forced to leave... but do yourself a favour and visit...

Ok, sorry for the OT... Intel FTW?

When AMD became popular, did they release their processors at low prices because they wanted to or had to? I understand why people support one company over another, but none of us can claim AMD are the better people when they've never been in the same situation Intel is currently in, financially and in size.

C2D didn't just appear one fine sunday morning, so AMD has time to counter that product and didn't. Instead it doubled it's workload and put itself under extreme pressure. I'm yet to see one situation where the underdog stays "pure" after usurping the big player so if AMD does hit back hard and years down the line takes Intel's position in the market everyone should rest assured AMD will do just the same and claim it as retribution.
