OC Noob

This seems like the place to ask

New build and looking to do my first OC. I've never done a OC before but I want to get the most out of this machine. Where I'm confused a bit is if I have to do this through the BIOS or from a BIOS utility that I can access on my desktop. Hopefully this screen shot helps (this is AI Boost for OC)

Basically if I can do it through this desktop utility what should my settings be for peak performance? On the AI Booster my options are CPU, next tab memory where I have two choices DRAM Voltage and DRAM Frequency and PCI-E. All options are set to Auto right now.

Here are my specs:

Asus PK5 Motherboard
Intel Core2 Duo E6600 (2.40GHz, 1066 MHz FSB, 4MB L2 Cache
2GB OCZ High Performance DDR2 (800)
GeForce 8600GT Video card
500GB WD Sata HD
Liteon DVD/RW

Thanks

You should OC through the bios, software overclocking is sketchy to say the least, even if it's Asus' AI Booster application.

If you read the sticky that's at the top of this forum you'll find a great thread about C2D overclocking through the BIOS

To answer your first question, you really should be tackling overclocking via the bios and not a bios utility, it is the safest and most stable way to go. In order to figure out where to start you should look at the overclocking guides provided on this site. That will give you a much better understanding of all the components involved in overclocking.

As well what kind of a PSU are you touting in that system of yours? That will be critical to a safe and successful overclock. Good luck and welcome.

Ran a CPU-Z check and here's what I have. Any help would be appreciated. I read the thread above but still a little unsure.
