help with old sempron plz?

Thread Starter
Hi, I have been trying to overclock my old sempron 3000+ up for my friend. The bios allows it to go up to 199 which is like 2.45 ghz, but it is set on 166 default. However when I try to go above 166, which is 1.99 ghz, it will boot up, but when it goes to start up the OS it crashes and gives an error message. If you try to boot anything off cd/dvd, it will restart. I tried a different hard drive, but it has the same problem. When I put it back down to 166, everything worked fine.

Any ideas what is doing this?

Okay, I found out the type of motherboard and socket. It is a socket A (462) Sempron 3000+

The Motherboard is a KT600-8237, with a phoenix 6.00 PG BIOS.

Is that the info you needed, or is there something else?

You probably have to either lower your memories timings or FSB.

Do you have any suggestions on how much?

You may need to set a jumper for the 200. If it's set @ 166 it may be screwing with you. Some MBs of that era had a FSB jumper, please consult the manual

Edit: Or you may need a BIOS update...
The only MB I find with that part # is an ECS but the ZBIOS versions don't jive with what you posted.

I have played with the jumpers a bit. There are 2 options. One lockes it under 1.6 ghz, and the other supposedly goes to 2.43, but when you put it above 2ghz, the problems start.

I slowed the memory, as suggested, but right after it gets past the screen where it displays the bios, processor, etc., it reboots.
