Alright, so just to get started I am pretty cheap. I do not want to spend a lot of money on the "Ever-Changing-Computer" BUT I was looking at more ram for my computer. Currently I have 2x 512MB DDR 400 of Azenram. I was looking to buy 2 more Gigs or 1GB x 2. I may either run 2 of the 1GB sticks in dual channel with the 2 512MB in dual channel as well or just totally scrap the 512MB's. So I was looking at TigerDirect at some new ram (the cheapest) and I came upon companies called: US Modular, Patriot, and Centon. Now as for reviews go so far I have heard that Centon ram is like a "sleeper" car which has a lot under the hood but is not well known. I also heard Patriot is really good. I have not heard much about US Modular though.

Prices (All are DDR400 which is the fastest my mobo can support):

US Modular 2x 1GB $119.97 CAN http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...063&CatId=1838
Patriot 2 x 1GB $166.99 CAN http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...494&CatId=1838
Centon 2x 1GB $172.99 CAN http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...012&CatId=1838

Has anybody heard anything good about any of these companies or would recommend one over a another.

Here is the link to all the ram in the category on TigerDirect.ca: http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...Sort=4&Recs=30

I would almost suggest trying to get a AM2 motherboard and just getting 2gigs of DDR2 if you can spare the extra money. DDR2 is alot cheaper, and better, than DDR. And if you ever plan to upgrade later down the road you can keep your DDR2

It all revolves around the ICs used in the modules. Somwe Centon can do well and also Patriot.
The high end ICs are long gone so wahts available will likewly no OC a lot.
But do get 2x1G and not use the 2x512s with them!

BTW, both the Cent and Pat are CAS3 so don't expect much OCing from them!

Yeah but if I do that then I need to buy a new processor when I just upgraded mine from a A64 3000+ to a X2 3800+ (939) before they were totally gone. I do not feel like spending that much money.

Alright, was just a suggestion to save you money later down the road. You should also check out NCIX.com they are also another well known Canadian reseller.

You'll get much better results running just the 2x1gb in there because it will run in dual channel. Adding in the extra 2x512 won't add much performance, it might actually decrease it a bit. Plus you could also sell off the old ram to get some of the money back

If you use slower RAM with faster RAM, the faster RAM will be clocked down to match the slowest sticks. That is probably why they recommended that you not use your 2 x 512.

Also, keep in mind DDR3 just came out, so you may not necessarily be able to keep your DDR2 should you upgrade.

That being said, I would try to buy some G Skill HZs (with the black heatsinks) as they are affordable and are talked about as some of the bestRAM out there.

But won't both sets run in dual cahnnel because 4 slots are available put 2 in one dual cahnnel set and the other 2 in the other set?
