I'm not sure if it's the added pressure per se, or simply improving the contact between the heatsink and the die.

Or we could just be describing the same thing, but differently.

Tomaytoe, tomahto... same thing in the end perhaps.

Actually, I didn't bother to check the age of the coins. But I just used them as shims.

Thanks for the idea, though.
Oops.

Misread DuckieHo's post.

Must be too hot at work today...

Well the two pennies are copper. I bet if he lapped those pennies and added some TIM then he might get a .10th degree lower in temperature readings.

I never knew that. Hm I wonder if those pennies are worth more then a penny??? more copper to the recyclers...

Why did you resurrect a thread from over two years ago? There is also a better "washer mod" for the TRUE that is a little bit more exact and applies more even pressure.

Awe boo hoo for the thread age. I just saw this thread for the first time a couple of days ago. Besides good threads never get old in my book buddy. Now if you have a better solution that you know of then maybe some links would be nice but then again we don't want to hijack txtmastjoe's thread now do we.

I'm actually glad he 'ressurected' it. Had he not, I probably wouldn't have known about this. When I get home I'll have a SI-128SE waiting for me. I have no idea if I can use the same mod on that, but considering HR-05 IFX/SLI has a similar mounting method to the TRUE etc.. I'm assuming Thermalright likes to stick to that basic "mold" (so to speak" for mounting their heatsinks.

Sure, I could try a washer mod instead, but i've got pennies everywhere. I'll probably give it a shot if/when I delid.

Well I just happen to be fortunate enough that my zalman has a curved retention clip and when I use it on my naked 3500+ all I have to do is bent the clip a little and it tightens it right up. Good luck w/that SI-128SE when you get home.
