Curios about how far can go on different CPUs

My mobo and cpu are on the way but just curios what’s the average OC for E4xxx and E6xxx?

E4xxx --> 2.6G - 3.0G?
E63xx/E64xx --> 3.0G -3.5G?
E66xx/E67xx --> 3.6G - 4.0G?

There are no average OC's. It all depends on your cooling, surrounding temperature, and your luck, possibly the compatibility of your motherboard and your processor. It is hard to give a direct OC since you did not give enough information.

i already got 3.8 GHz with my C2D E6400, never tried to go higher though.
I will wait for a better case and psu, and maybe better memories.

you mean 2.8? i have 3.2 as the max oc on my e6420

The E4** 3.1GHZ to 3.5 GHZ on air, up to 4GHZ on phase.

the E63**/E64** 3.1 GHZ to 3.8 GHZ on air, up to 4GHZ on phase

the E67** to X6** 3.8 GHZ to 4.1 GHZ on air, 4.8 GHZ on phase & water

this info is based on the OCs i have seen reported with cpuz HERE on OCN.

- motherboards HAVE to be able to hit HIGH FSBs if you have a low multi processor like the E63** and E64**
- ambient(room) temperature is a witch. if its too hot in your rooom already, forgedaboutit.
- your ACTUAL cooling. Big typhoons, Tuniq towers and thermalright extremes will get you very far, and water a little farther, then phase to the max.

This would be about right with the oldest CPU's, newer chips, E6320/E6420's in particular are slowly getting worse at overclocking.

Mounting has a big role too. Just because i have put wrong amount of thermal paste i was 10C over the temops I am now. A simple lapping and putting less amount oif thermal paste gave me 10C less on idle and 24 less on full load. ALthough as it seems again I have put more thermal paste than I should.

So true. Newer steppings have always lower overclocking petential up to almost none. Older can take higher voltages and have Tdiode and 22W Extended Halt Power.

^ Oh yes, good say. I never really mounted any Thermal Paste/Grease, so I have not thought of it. Thanks for the added information.

Lol. I would never imagine that the temos would drop so much by just a simple reseating. Imagined it would drop 2-3 C but 10C idle and 24 full load was too much.
