No it isn't. It stops unfair monopolies. Sure, you won't get hurt because all you've ever used is Windows, but what about others who use Mac, BSD or Linux? Should this, small but very existant proportion of the market be left out?

It won't make it any harder. Windows Media Player, the market share holder, has an automatic codec downloader, and codec it doesn't already have, it will get. No fuss, no mess.
By looking after the smaller proportion of the market as well as the larger, the BBC can ensure they get full coverage. Looking after only the majority would be a very, very foolish business tactic.
