Barcelona faster than Core 2 Duo - Page 2

they said it was faster clock for clock.
but if thats based on multithreaded apps...then its not really a valid comparison.

either way, slightly hopeful news, maybe AMD can at least stay competitive for a little while. but isn't penryn scheduled around or before the same time as barcelona??
like Q3 08 for barcelona and 08 for penryn?

08!? Barcelona is supposed to debut in August this year. By Q3 08 we'll have AM3 chips

Penryn should be out Q3 of this year last I heard. With the P35 and x28 boards coming out, I hope Penryn comes out soon anyway.

surprised no one caught this:

Quote:
In 95 percent of cases K10 is faster clock to clock but the real issue is what happens to compare 2.5 GHz K10 versus Penryn at 3.4 GHz.

The other issue is that Penryn has more instructions including SSE4 while K10 has just subset of it.

First of all they just said they compared a Quad Core processor verse a dual core processor in multimedia applications. That is a real shocker.

Second of all, this "source" opposes all other sources, which say that Core 2 is faster than Barcelona.

Third, they didn't have any proof, they didn't show us and results.

Forth, AMD hasn't yet demonstrated Barcelona past 1.6Ghz. Penryn has been demonstrated up to 3.33Ghz, but we all know they can do plenty more.

Now wait a minute here. I'm confused. Barcelona is quad core, no? So, I would hope a quad would outperform a dual core in multimedia operations, guessing here that it is mutlithreaded.....
Very nice observation.

Face it...since the AthlonXP there have been very minor improvements AMDwise...they sold out and had to use their server socket 940 just to keep some sales...
Like I said before until I see some video of matched architecture...forget it.
Unless AMD starts producing some results for the fans...the REST of the bottom will drop out...LOL

I know really...

Honestly I'm not trying to bash AMD, but they compared their brand new "native" quad core chip to an older dual chip in a multimedia app, which are normally mutithreaded. They offer 0 proof about theri findings. And still, they only state per clock....Thats like saying my Honda civic weighing 2800 pounds is faster per HP than your Z06 at 3000 pounds. Sure you give them both 120hp, the civic will be faster, but Penryn has been at 3.33 already, Barcelona, at what a measly 1.66?

And that whole "native" quad thing really bugs me. Has anybody been able to prove that it means, anything? I think its kinda like people who put a "v-tech" sticker ont heir car thinking it will give them +10hp
