Barcelona faster than Core 2 Duo - Page 4

the "article" says they only saw benchmark results....if it's even true, who would have ran the benchmarks?

This "article" is worthless. It doesn't give us any system details, any benchmark details, no screen shots or other proof, no methods of benchmark, and no processor information. The only information they gave us, that it was Quad Core Barcelona versus dual core Core 2 Duo 100% ruins any chance of this article being legitimate.
Paul makes a great point.

Really, they could have very easily gotten a Quad Intel if they wanted. They could have very easily taken a SS if they wanted to. A bunch of garbage if you ask me.

Edit***Intel's Quads arent native so they suck, so that must be why they didnt comapre a quad

Maybe AMD wants to catch the cheap side, like you could get a Barcelona Quad for probally around $200, or you you could pay $600 to get a 2 sec. faster benchmark time, hmmm. let me think which one I want

Dont know where you have been. 270 bucks will get you a 2.4Ghz Kentsfield in a couple of weeks with steppings that allow 3.6Ghz+ on air cooling.

We had a privilege to see Barcelona K10 multimedia scores and we can confirm that clock to clock, it runs faster than Core 2 Duo.
Stunning, a Quad Core out performs a Dual Core clock for clock. To bad you will never see a Core 2 processor competing clock for clock with Barcelona... not to mention Quad Core Kentsfield processors will cost $266 in less than a month.

AMD has only demonstrated Barcelona to 1.6Ghz... Penryn has been demonstrated to 3.33Ghz.

But I am still confused with this Dual core vs Quad core comparison....

Quote:
Instructionwise when you compare all known instructions K10 beats Conroe, there is absolutely no question about it.
Then why don't they explain for us. If there is no question about it, perhaps they could share with us this compelling evidence.

Also this "article" seems to be greatly opposed to a reputable news source (DailyTech / AnandTech) that shows a 2.4Ghz Kentsfield being about 58% faster than a 1.6Ghz Barcelona.

Quote:
The AMD benchmark ran on a single-socket, K10 CPU running at 1.6 GHz on NVIDIA's nForce Professional 3400 chipset. According to the system properties, the AMD system used 4GB of DDR2-667.

The most similar Intel system we could muster up on such short notice was an Intel Xeon 3220. The Xeon X3220 is clocked at 2.4 GHz, and ran on Intel's Garlow platform (Intel X38). This system property profile stated the system utilized 4GB of DDR2-800.

Cinebench completed the default benchmark in 27 seconds for the 1.6 GHz K10; 17 seconds for the Intel Xeon X3220. The Kentsfield Xeon was 58% faster with a 50% higher clock frequency for Cinebench.

Both systems ran Windows 2003 R2, 64-bit.

well, for some reason it doesn't exist anymore, but Anandtech had a page that spoke of the reasons the 1.6ghz barcelona performed as bad as it did. It has to do with the BIOS. The clock speeds are an another matter, but the platform just wasn't ready when they ran those benchmarks. I found a forum that linked to the anandtech page, but the link doesn't seem to work anymore.

I'm not saying I trust this news, but that doesn't mean you should take previous benchmarks as fact either.

Well they are fact. They are right there, can't you see them. Even if there is BIOS or clocking issues, until they prove to us that they have fixed these issues, the above benchmarks are fact.

I am have quite the day with words! I guess I shouldn't have said fact, and instead said "final verdict"..it's true, those are all we have to go on now, but I'm confident this will all end up looking good for AMD..somehow.

This reminds me of an analogy we use at work a lot.
Take a V8 Mustang and a 112 Horsepower Honda Civic.
Lets say that we drop both of them out of an airplane.
The Honda hits the ground first, thus, making the Honda faster then the Mustang.

You can't compair something of lesser value to something of higher value and expect the lesser valued item to perform as well. Common sense.

GO INTEL!
