Faster means more heat, less lifespan, more power drain....in Computers that is.

Faster is also not better in ALL Aspects of life as well.

If you cannot figure that out....then I have pity for all of you.

Kinda ironic coming from somebody with a C2D pushing 3.8Ghz. If I were you I'd turn that down to save the polar bears

well i get what digikid means though, don't you all remember the P4 fiasco, iirr Intel went for speed and AMD went for efficiency.

Anyways, this article is bull, we'll see when it actually comes out if it ever does.
instead of saying it's better and it's faster per a clock to clock test, show us. There is no proof in that article.

The article does not say the Barcelona is faster. It says "clock for clock", Barcelona is faster.....meaning that ig a C2D is running at 2.5 G and a Barcelona is running at 2.5 G, the Barcelona is faster, except that the Intel has greater instruction set, so the Barcelona is not faster. On the whole, the article says diddly.

Penryn is 4 Conroe slapped together with glue in the middle. They are doing the same thing they did with the P4. They just slap more cores onto a die and call it progress when almost no actual improvement is done. Besides AMD plans to release 8 cores same time as Intel last time they spoke of it.

You are going to eat those words...

Do you mind pointing out the "4 Conroe slapped together" from this image of a Penryn processor:

Do you mind explaining these, which are not "progress":

What of the 45nm, reduced heat, and increased temperature tolerance? How about the lower voltages and more memory? What do you have to say about SSE4? Can you explain the additional 238 million transistor which will be on Penryn (compared to quad core Kentsfield)? What about the die shrinkage to 107mm^2 (compared at 143mm^2 Kentsfield)... 1600Mhz FSB....

What says to you all that?

Ohh wait, facts elude fanboys.
