AMD 2200+ Problems

Thread Starter
Ok, first of all... I'm aware that it's old, and yes, i have something else but i want it to work so... just give me some help

Ok i have a AMD 2200+ that appears as a 1800 and has a bus speed of 166, i have 1.5GB of DDR RAM that runs at 400Mhz... My motherboard is a VIA KT600 and the BIOS is a Pheonix 6.00 PG... The thing is that the computer is (from time to time) even freezing or crashing (rebooting)... It's very cold outside, 35 - 40 degrees (Celsius) and i thought it can't handle it... So i bought a fan for the HDD (don't ask me why, it seeemed preety hot)... After that, a fan for the cage, still, same thing... Another fan for the CPU (but not an expensive one... 2200RPM)... The thing is that after it's restarting the bios shows the CPU temp at 52-53 degrees... And i guess that something is wrong, and it doesn't have any connection to the fans... I think the frequencyes are wrong so i'm asking you for help

Things to consider...
The BIOS temp is 80% of the full load temp.
You should keep the full load temp @ or below 55c when OCing... some prefer below 60c but thats pushing it.
Some possibilities to look into.
1. Check the voltage out puts on the 3.3, 5 and 12v rails.
2. Memtest86 to test your RAM.
3. Do you have the latest chip set drivers.
4. Is there a relative BIOS update that you may need
5. Mixed RAM can cause issues...
IC can be used on one of both sides of the RAM and mixing them can cause issues. That is 8 chips on each side or having 8 and 16 chip modules can be an issue.
The 2200+ ... both the Thouroughbred and Thorton Cores do run at 1800MHz with a default 13.5x.

Oh, and please fill in your "System Specs" via the USER CP link, it will help us help you

Welcome to the forums friend

Lovely - more K7 stories ^_^

nice advice there by duke - I would only also like to add.

Check your IDE cables..
As well as what your temps look like under FULL load (in bios even).

PErhaps its getting much hotter in windows than you think (like mine does)
My system crashes at 58d (cant keep it any cooler :\\ - unless I take off my case)

As for your speeds being wrong
They're quite fine

Good.
And while you're at it (memtest should reveal a RAM prob anyway)

you should take out your sticks of RAM, and clean the contact with a normal eraser (just rub them, even if they dont look dirty, there is usually a film..)

And use an and old toothbrush and brush out your RAM slots

I "MEM Tested" the RAM... It didn't show any problems... And yes, it's mixxed, 2 Kings and a "Vitesta" metalcase... I'm going to change the IDE cables now and clean the RAM... Paste some termoconductor paste on the CPU so i'll see you... when i'll see you

Ok Man.

But we may need to specify some options in memtest to get the most thorough test
