I would go with the 2600XT instead of the 8500. the 2600 has the UVD which does all video decoding on the graphics card and ATI's AVEO is equal or better than Nvidia's PureVideo on just about every benchmark. The 2600 might run a little more than the 8500 but I think it is worth it in the HTPC arena. There are also quite a few manufactures that are releasing passively cooled 2600XT's, perfect for a HTPC.
