Xbox 360 Questions. 1680 x 1050 Resolution? If not then what?

Changed the title to save me from making another thread.
First question was about halo 3 release date.

2nd Question was about using my 20.1" LCD with my xbox 360. It seems you can, and that it looks great, but you will need one of these http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16874103025 which are freaking expensive! Is there a similar product i could buy that is much cheaper? I mean that is a lot for a simple cable, and you know it doesn't cost that much to make.

Next, i'm pretty sure i need the 360 version with the hard drive, but not exactly sure why. Why do i need it? Without it you can not save games or play online or download stuff or play Xbox games on the 360 right? Am i in the right ball park.

I could use my 2.1 Logitech X230 speakers with a 360 with no problem right?

How much does xbox live cost? Aren't there different version of it, like free and paid for ones? Whats the difference 0,o.
And it seems they took the xbox live headset off club live search : [ That would have been an easy way to get a headset for live, i suppose i'll wait and see if they put it back up, unless a headset comes with xbox live subsciption?

I know this is a lot of information i'm asking for So +rep to any contributers!

Also i'm really leaning towards the 360 simply because practically EVERY Single friend of mine has it. I long for the days where i would rape my entire intermediate school in Halo, but alas, i am the suck right now. But that will soon change if i get a 360.

The 20 Wide will work with the 360.

Just buy this - http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-VGA-H.../dp/B000B6MLTG - It will let you connect to the VGA and it will run in HD mode (As all LCD's are HD )

The 360 looks the bomb on my 19" Wide

You can change the resolution in the 360 Display settings

You can use your Speakers with it if you use this.

http://www.amazon.com/Audio-Splitter...2897480&sr=8-6

It will convert the audio cables > a speaker connect

I ALREADY have one of those! I actually have like two! I am using one right now on my PC as an extension cord to switch between my speakers and razer earphones more easily! Duh lol.

I just need to find that vga cable for a whole lot cheaper than $30 lol. What's cool is my LCD is both VGA and DVI, and i use DVI for the PC, so i can easily switch back and forth!! Oh and i need to find out about the other stuff : /

Oh crap look at this... http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/x...defdetails.htm, the 360 doesn't support 1680x1050 resolution??!! That means it would have to run at a different res with my monitor... This is news is really blowing it for me, what would i have to do, run it at a lower resolution? Wouldn't that look crappy? I hate resolutions, i'm so lost with them.

Although i do have a spare 17" Samsung LCD that i could rig up if i needed to...

You can use your 2.1 Logitech's if you have the 3.5mm to RCA adaptor. I am pretty sure your speakers come with one. Also yes you might be able to find a cheaper 3rd party VGA cable for your 360. As for the Xbox Live, everyone gets a Silver membership free, all that does is let you have friends, chat, and your stats go online. The Gold is the one that actually will let you play online, and 13 months of that costs $50. If you buy the starterpack then you will get a headset otherwise you can buy one for like $20 for the corded(plugs into controller) or $50 for a wireless one. The harddrive lets you save game demos and other online downloaded content and also saved games. FOR SURE go with the premium Xbox that comes with the hard drive because it comes with everything you need. (cables,headset,1 month xbox live gold, wireless controller, hard drive)

Don't worry about it not running at 1680 x 1050. I have a 20.1inch wide screen and I use my xbox 360 on it at 1280 x 768 with that cable and it looks great, you wont be disappointed.

(And I am hopeful one day they might update the xbox 360 to support 1680 x 1050 as they did with the 1920 x 1xxx resolution)

BTW, I wouldn't cheap out on the cable and buy a different brand as I have read various times that the less expensive ones aren't as high quality and result in a worse picture for the xbox. I'd recommend playing it safe and just buying the Microsoft cable that way you know it will work without problems.

What I did with sound was just plug the cable into the speaker in my monitor (I'm not sure if your monitor has speakers or not, but it might be worth checking as I completely forgot mine had them until couple weeks ago)
