Yahoo joins internet day of silence strike

A number of Internet radio stations will be participating in a Day of Silence on June 26 to protest the retroactive royalty rate increases due to go into effect on July 15. Organized by Kurt Hanson, publisher of the Radio and Internet Newsletter, the protest is designed to remind listeners that silence is "what the Internet could be reduced to on or shortly after" the royalty increase begins...
I hope they get something out of this, I would hate seeing Internet radio die!

Seriously I don't get why they decided to do this. Isn't things fine already, or do they want more money? All their greediness will just end up letting them lose money.

I dont listen to internet Radio. However when I do its nice to have it there !
Net radio FTW! Guess I have to go without it for one day, no biggie.
So does this mean we have to turn our speakers off when we play our games?

I listen to internet radio occasionally but it's not a way of life for me. I'd rather just listen to CDs really, but that's just me.

I only listen to streaming sites such as
www.breakbeat.co.uk
or
www.dnbsets.de
Does anyone find it ironic that they are having a day of silence to protest....when they will have an indefinite period of silence soon?

I used to listen to pandora.com all the time at work, then they had some issues with content regulations or something outside of the US and stopped streaming internationally

It's not ironic, they are doing it for that exact reason.

This whole thing seems ridiculous to me, both the per-listener rate and the whole retroactive fees. I can't imagine normal radio stations have this (how would you even know how many listeners you have...?) so why should internet radio be different?

I see what you're saying, but it's ironic because I doubt that a day of silence will affect the situation. What WILL affect the situation is people calling their representatives before it's too late.
Or.....
listen to internet radio that is overseas!
