Scythe Shogun/ Blue Orb mod

just got a scythe shogun for £4.99 at overclockers.co.uk. i know it isn't the best cooler, but for the money it seemed like a good idea.

at the moment my ambient temp is changing so often that it's difficult to say wether there's been much improvement over the blue orb, but if there has been it's marginal. this was kind of annoying, but only because the blue orb looked so much cooler and it would be a hassle to switch back.

so rather than do that i decided to just take the fan from the blue orb and screw it into the side of the shoguns fins. i know there is debate over the effectiveness of having two fans, but the stock shogun fan is loud on high, so it's nice to be able to slow it down and still have the blue orb fan keeping things moving.

pics:

pretty basic i know, i didn't think pictures of me taking the orb apart were worthwhile since it's very obvious how to do it, once you see the screws are behind the fan blades i guess.

so yeah if you have a blue orb 2 lying around, you may as well use it, since it looks great, and the fan is pretty powerfull while still being one of the quietest in my system

Looks great!

I'd love to see some thermal performance tests, once your ambients settle down.

Great job!

you should put a shorud around the fans, so the air is ducted through the HSF, helping lower your temps.

hmm i think the Orb fan is 110mm so i could destroy a 120, or make a custom one... not sure if it's worth it though, is there any data around supporting this idea?
