Temps rediculously low - Page 2

I looked through the drivers, and there was nothing left for anything nForce3 related (old board). At least DCPro is doing it's job right. As it is the SM Bus that takes care of the temperature sensors, I am trying to delete/ update anything related to it.
If I do a clean Windows install on a clean drive, and leave the current drive untouched but still in the system, will all my programs still work. Will I be able to run them from the old drive, with settings the same, bookmarks saved, etc?

I have done what you are inquiring about several times without a hitch.

On one of the occasions I used another system to do a File Migration

If you use the same drive on the re-install, you could always move any files or programs that you want to the My Documents folder, do a backup or just copy it, then transfer it back to the new install. One must make certain that all associated files that are required for the program are also moved, some are not always in the Root Directory.

I have found that if I have to move or backup numerous files and folders in as many locations that I get confused and botch the job... but that is just me... Moving them in one go (My Documents folder) works well for me.

...erm,... did you try older or different versions of the BIOS? Also, maybe do a backup just in case...?

The DFI website only had one BIOS edition available to download. I tried the DFI software, and it gives the same incorrect reading. More reason for my thinking that that that Windows is overriding the sensor assignments. I'm not going to do a migration, as I want everything on the drive. In the morning I'm going out and getting a new drive. Its annoying because it is all MBM's fault. When I tried it for my Athlon 3000+ rig, it ruined the sensors. Id did the same with this. I think I kind of have the temps figured out. The 50c in BIOS must be the NB. Ambients are around 22c, so the low 30's reading could easily be the CPU, as the heatsink is so huge. Except that the 20c reading goes up when I lightly increase the FSB. Oh well. I need to leave it alone for a few hours or I'm gonna throw the board out the window.

Am I understanding correctly that you bought new components, including a mobo, and you are trying to use the previous Windows install? I wouldn't even think of upgrading a mobo without a reformat/reinstall. Reformat/reinstall, as mentioned above, is my suggestion.

I've done it plenty of times, even from Intel to AMD. This one is only having trouble because the sensor situation was unstable before the hardware change.

Somtimes it is best to walk away and come back refreshed. Chances are you would regret it if you tried to break the world record frisbee throwing record with your motherbard...

I used DCPro and cleared all nVidia (old chipset was nF3) drivers. After installing the nF570 drivers, the readings are still wrong. I've pretty much accepted that I just need a fresh install. I might get Vista so I can get 4GB of RAM. If I get Vista, how much of my programs would have trouble running? I haven't used Vista since I got it direct from Microsoft when it was still in Beta, so I have memories of how horrid it was.

Flashing the BIOS with all the drives removed again leaves the same result. That being so, means that software on the drive has nothing to do with incorrect readings, as the BIOS is reading them wrong as well. I'm still going to try a clean install though. The CPU reading in BIOS might be accurate, as crazy as that seems. With ambient 15-18c, BIOS start up was mid 20's, then after 10 minutes mid 30's. That is almost plausible, almost. I've heard reports of this heatsink dropping temps by 20c. It has loads of surface area, 6 heatpipes, and 2 120mm fans. A 65w CPU at stock speeds, coupled with a massive heatsink, could idle 10c above ambient temperature. Any thoughts?

But now a new problem has arisen: I can't boot Windows. I get as far as the loading bar. It cycles it's normal number of times, goes black like before moving to the logon screen, but never gets there.
