E6600 + Gigabyte P35 vs. 965p DS3Rev3

Thread Starter
In conjunction with this thread, there's another that Knitelife and I have going SPECIFICALLY for comparing Asus P5k and this Gigabyte board: http://www.overclock.net/intel-mothe...ison-asus.html

Go there for more info:

I'll also be running my own tests just to see what I can get out of the board and this CPU combo.

I'll be posting direct links to each test in this thread with this CPU in this first post.

Hope this helps someone out!

First Test:

E6600 + Stock Intel Fan OC. No TIM reapply.

First time turning the system on.

9 x 400 @ 1.45v = 3.6ghz

And still dropping it.

Idle temps: 35c 37c in iTaT, ORTHOS loads look like 52c and 55c. Not too bad for stock cooling. Not tooo bad.

Gonna have some OC and temp reports up tonight. Just got the Ram in, and wanted 1066 to make sure that the linked Dimm and FSB weren't the reason I'm being held back.

Able to do 3.8Ghz no problem at 1.525v, but temperatures start knocking on 60c.

Will know more soon!

I think Gigabyte boards are dope, would love to try Asus boards-- p5k actually-- because of the insane success.

Yeah I'm going to clean up my sig tonight and put all of the test threads and stuff there. xD

Would do it now while I'm doing NOTHING at work, but need to update this one first.

You said you were doing ur tests with the stock fan. Well i got a zalman 9700. Generally how much of a difference temperature wise should I expect between that and the stock heatsink/fan.

I couldn't tell ya on that. I also only did one test with the stock fan and that was the 3.6Ghz boot test.

I would say Zalman's definitely better than stock, though. =P

I'll have all of my info up tonight after I go to Best Buy to look at stuffs.

Suffice it to say, I'm now moving to the P5K Deluxe as my test platform with the E6600 and upcoming Q6600.

The Gigabyte board is JUST FINE! Nothing is wrong with it and costs less than the Asus p5k Deluxe... I just want to try out Asus for a bit.

These are the highest stable clocks I could with Giagbyte 965p DS3 Rev 3.3 and Gigabyte p35 DS3P paired with E6600 and 4 gigs of DDR2-1066 ram--

Gigabyte p35 DS3p : 3.5ghz Stable | 1.48v | +.2v MCH | +.2v FSB | Idle 33c - Load 56c

Gigabyte 965p DS3 Rev3.3 : 3.2ghz Stable | 1.37v | +.1v MCH | +.1v FSB | Idle 32c - Load 45c

Yeah... I was able to get 200mhz more out of the P35 board and not only that, was able to actually boot up at 3.7Ghz on the P35 board. Just too much vCore to stabilize.

I had this same thing happen when I jumped to the P35 in the first place. The Quad Core that I couldn't even get to post beyond 3.2Ghz was able to post at 3.6ghz on AIR.

I really think the P35 Chipset has a lot going for it, and I can't wait to get A) The Asus p5k Deluxe for testing and B) X38!
