Intel or Gigabyte raid?

Thread Starter
My motherboard has both Intel ICH9R SATA RAID and GIGABYTE SATA2 RAID. Which one should I use for my Raid-0 array?

I'm leaning towards the intel, since it's well... intel. I used the GIGABYTE SATA2 RAID on my last board and it worked fine with good benchmarks, but I wanted to know if maybe the intel will have better performance.

Use the ICH9-R, don't use any other.

You can set 2 hard drives for RAID in the ICH9-R and then you'll be able to use the other 4 SATA ports left.

That's how I do in my ICH8-R, I have the RAID and in the other SATA ports I have a hard drive and an optical drive, so that leaves me with 2 SATA ports free.

I believe the DS3 mobo there is only raid on the Gigabyte sata ports. You have a DS3R which I don't know if its any different or not.

Nevermind did some research your mobo is different according to this site.

Quote:
So, the board ends up having 8 Serial ATA channels (with NCQ support and 3Gbit/s data transfer rate): 6 of these ports are connected to ICH9R and the remaining 2 – to the external controller chip. Both, the integrated ICH9R ATA controller as well as Gigabyte SATA2 chip, allow creating RAID 0 and 1 arrays. ICH9R also supports RAID 0+1 and 5 arrays and Matrix Storage Technology.

Also heres a site with comparison between different types of raid.

Well I got impatient and went with the intel raid. Wow, I got a massive boost in burst speed over the gigabyte raid. Over 375MB/s burst. Same sustained speed though. Works for me
