Thermalright heatsink pics (56k unfriendly)

Thread Starter
Yeah, installed this a few months ago, but just managed to get some pics of it recently. Getting some decent lighting in the case is tough...

Anyway, the main objective of all this is to get as much overclock as I can, while maintaining a low temperature, all with almost no noise.

With this rig, it is barely audible with fans at max. At min, the only way I can hear it is with a completely silent surrounding. Even then, its barely so <1m from my bed.

The overclock its on is 3.4ghz, Orthos stable 24 hr, max temp of 60C TAT @100%. The pic showed 67, thats before I lowered the voltage.

The heatsinks used are: The Thermalright Ultra-120, Thermalright HR05-SLI, Thermalright HR03. The fan on the HR03 is the Arctic AF9225 (92mm). The fan on the case is an Arctic Fan 12, and the fan on the Ultra-120 is the S-Flex SFF21E. PSU is the Antec TP3, 650W. The system spec as per sig.

So, after much ado, here are the pics...

(The string on the bottom left is from my jacket, not the computer)

Just a closeup of how it all fits.

Just to validify the overclock. As mentioned, max temp is now 60 from lowering vCore by 0.0125V.

Comments welcome

You need to fix your fan setup dude. Turn the HR-03 the other way around, facing downward. Then turn the NB sink downward, then put your fan on the U120 blowing upward from the bottom. I guarantee you'll see 5C knocked off, at least!

Agreed, there is no reason to have your fans all smashed together like that, if the fans cant get any air, they cant push any air.

Yeah, TBH I hated that heatsink. I had it for a couple months and the contact with the IHS with the standard pushpins seemed awful. I also modded it to work with a back plate so that I could screw it down istead, and the temps were still pretty bad. I dropped to a started Foxconn HS+F and my temps actually improved. Lesson learned. Not all fancy looking aftermarker heatsinks work how you think they will.

Not to mention his PSU fan is sucking air AWAY from the U120's fan. And the HR-03 fan is also pulling air away from the U120.

Sheesh, I'm suprised you are loading in the 80's!!!

BTW, what he has is the U90, not the 120. The 120 has 12 heat pipes, not 8.

EDIT: I lied, the U90 has 6, the U120 has 8, and the U120 Ultra has 12.

You're thinking of the U120 extreme, the original has 8. The extreme has 12. notice the HUGE difference in Fan size from the 92mm on the HR-03 to the 120mm on the U120.

Yeah, I caught that. I don't have my old one to look at. It's boxed away somewhere.
