Acer EM61SM/EM61PM Overclockable? - Page 3

My E380 worked with 2 stick of memory listed below but not combined with the acer 4200. Boot setup shows the 3GB but on boot shows artifacts, then lockup. The 2 sticks works in either the orange and purple slots.

Anyone if the mobo auto detects the ram speed/latency?
Any way to know if memory is running @ 533Mhz or 800Mhz?

thanks.

I also have the acer AspireE380 amd x2 4200 comp. I installed the same mushkin 6400 4x 1gig sticks of ram and it boots up just great and also read it as 3.5 gigs of operating ram. I havnt done anything to the setting and just popped it in and it worked. I did install 2 gigs first, and then i installed the other 2 later.
It came with vista prem. and i love it. I popped in a 500w ps and a 7800gt video card. and it plays games great. Call of duty 4 is no problem at all. I can play crysis but it sets all the setting to low for me and there is no lag in the game. I am using a acer 22" monitor and it is the best one i have ever used. Yes it is limited since it isnt made for overclocking, and you could install a faster processor if you wanted. but unless the 5600 goes on sale for real cheap(under $100) I dont plan on upgradeing anything (only video card perhaps.) I havnt updated the bios and I purcased mine about may, 2007

my rig never recognized more than 3 gigs, no matter how it was arranged. whether it be 4X2 or 2X1X1 or 3X1X512 it just didn't like more than 3gigs. and this board sucked basically, completely locked down

I have an Aspire t180 with the same MB. You CAN OC it without flashing the bios. got to nvidia's website and Download Ntune which gives you access to your nforce chipsets tools for adjust freq and multi on your cpu & gpu. hope this helps

Teknowolf, I think that was already advised but software overclocking is typically not safe and can cause data corruption on the hard drive...especially if you can't lock the pci bus.

Wheels, I believe it's the nvidia 6100 nforce 430 chipset but I could be mistaken.

Hope this helps

don't do it, it won't work, this board is in not overclockable except with software which is highly frowned upon. spend the fifty buck to buy some cheap nforce6100 board and slap your cpu on it and oc away.

Hi

I too have a E380. In another site there is a moded BIOS so you can over clocked but I haven't treid it yet. I was told by Acer that I have a MC61pm-AM MOBO, but when I use CPUID it tells me I have the EM61SM/EM61PM board, does that make sense? If I Wanted to replace the MOBO which one could I use? I qould like to find one that has 1PCIEx16, and 2 PCI. I dont care if it had a PCIx1 one(not sure what I could use if for). But I cant find one that will allow me to use a video card that takes up a second slot so I can have a vent Vid card.
