Dude not the 3800+ that costs 56$ it is the 3800X2 that costs 80$
and since you already have a good cooling you will only need OEM CPU
yeah, make sure you get the X2 version, lol or upi'd be downgrading, haha

The only reason i recommended the X2 over the 165 is the higher Multi ,,, 9x wont play nice on an Asus Mobo , if that guy planning to go Opty he should go for the 170 at least

Um, not to be a posting Nazi, but I think it's a little reckless to make this claim (highlighted in bold above). There's no proof, and the way it's stated is quite misleading.

Just to refute what was posted, my sig rig used to run an Opteron 165, and it handled the 9x multiplier fine. Got the chip up to 2.7GHz, that one did...

you said it your self 2.7GHZ = 300X9 ,, 3GHZ will need more than that and your Mobo should max around 310-320

In point of fact, my particular motherboard maxes out at 346iMHz. This is without any tweaks to the chipset voltages. Other Asus users have reported similar experiences of 330-350MHz as well.

All I'm pointing out is it's a bit reckless and potentially misleading for anyone to say anything if it's not actually a product of experience.

it is actually a product of experience neither my A8N-E nor the SLI premium played as nice as the DFI with the 9x neither could run 24/7 @ 3GHZ ,, on the other hand the DFI did it without breaking a sweet , i could be wrong ,, thing might have changed with new Bios , or it is a different story with the Deluxe or my skill might not be good enough
