Lol no!!! I just did not understand lavieinjuste. You should only stop trying when you think you have money to waste. Hmmm it should weird the way your PC gradually died. I doupt your not doing the right power connections. You said you reseated it. Have you tried making all your PC again pieces and then reassembling it?

well when i took my motherboard out to put in the new cooler (it has a backplate) i had to disconnect everything, my HDD and DVD drives are still in the case but i unplugged the cables from the mobo. i'm still at a loss as to how this happened, i dont think i did anything that should have resulted in this

Well in that case, I would follow what was said earlier, and look very intently for scratches on your motherboard as they can lead to a broken circuit, and in turn, a non working motherboard...

Ummm you coudl try cleaning your mobo with an old toothbrush and some spirit uhhh alcohol. Try brushing it around and make sure its pure alcohol or else it will drown ^^. Althogh this method sounds a little weird. I have never tried myself but thats how I clean my mobos on parts they are particularly dirty.

i gave my mobo a good wipe with a lint free cloth, couldnt find any scratches but there was loads of dust and its possible some of that was TIM. i'm gonna try this http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=132409 and hope it works. i have a feeling that the backplate for the cpu HS might be shorting on some of connectors on the bottom of the board, i;ll but some insulating tape over them and see what happens. thanks for helping me out with this one guys, i'd probably have made something worse outta frustration.

Good luck. Yeah I myself got crazy when I finished assembling my PC and when i turned it ok it said checksum error and then said that my bios was corrupted. I remember I felt like throwing my PC from the window. Well I just looked more carefully and seemed that I did some wrong connection. Always must keep your head cool ^^
