Linux on M2R32-MVP

Thread Starter
Has anyone gotten any linux distro to run on an ASUS M2R32-MVP in RAID mode? I've tried in RAID, AHCI, and both IDE modes and still can't get anything to run or install. I've tried Unbuntu 10, Fedora Core 6, Fedora 7 - both 32 and 64-bit, and nothing works. Any ideas?

In the event this is a no go, I always have lots of discs I can sell.

I haven't gotten any distro to work, even in single HDD mode. I don't think there's a distro that recognizes the 580X's SATA controller. Perhaps try with an IDE drive? I don't have any IDE drives, but I would imagine it's worth a shot if you really want Linux. Of course, for me, they don't have x1950 drivers either... so there isn't much point in me using Linux just yet. I wish I could, though.

that's an RD580 board, right? I ended up not being able to use the onchip sata controller when trying to install ubuntu, luckily the AT8 32x has a separate on board controller.

You would probably need either an IDE drive or a SATA PCI card to get Linux on this mobo. Yes, it sucks, but it's, sadly enough, the truth...

Yeah, these boards aren't very Linux friendly. I'm sure mostly due to needing AMD drivers.

Well, if anyone manages to get ANY distro of Linux running on the M2R32-MVP board, please post how you did it, I would like to know.

Ok, it took long enough, but finally Fedora 8 can and will run on the M2R32-MVP board. Only after I sent numerous phone calls and emails to the Fedora team letting them know of the issue. The only issue is now, how do I get my Vista Bootloader to recognize it? I've tried this EasyBCD program, it's crap - doesn't work. I'm running a RAID, and nothing out there says how to make this work properly. Any ideas anyone??????

I've got the M2R32-MVP myself, and I've got LinuxMint 7.04 (ubuntu distro) running perfectly fine on it in single IDE HDD mode
