Need a cheap AGP card for a friend

Thread Starter
A friend of mine just acquired an old computer with the following specs:

AMD CPU, I forget which unfortunately, but its running at 1.5Ghz
512MB DDR 333mhz RAM
70GB IDE HDD
Integrated Graphics
200W PSU

He wants me to upgrade his graphics on a budget of £30. He has one AGP x8 slot and 3 PCI slots, which pretty much means he'll be getting an AGP card. On the plus side, the card will probably be so old we wont have to worry about bottlenecking. He will only be using it for very old games like Morrowind (the integrated graphics seem to have a driver issue with this game that causes flickering) and C+C: Generals and Dawn of War at low quality.

Suggestions would be appreciated but they must be available from Scan.

9600

One of the best cards i ever ever owned bang for buck

6600gt

This owns the 9600 and around the same cost

I have personally owned both cards and can say they both run CSS on max setting.

I loved them both

No Paypal account for me, so eBay is out unfortunately. How would a 9550 hold up?

Looks like the 6600gt retails for about £45 which, as sad as it is, is way out his price range...

Ahh right, i am not sure what performance that card puts out.

But check this out 6200

I think this outperforms the 9550 however you may want to do alittle research.

See if anyone can buy that 6600gt off ebay for you, he willnot be dissapointed with it. And for £5 more than a 6200

I'll probably go for the 6200, unfortunately I don't really have the time (or inclination) to do any heavy research on the subject as he kinda sprung this on me today and I'll have to get it with the parts I'm ordering tomorrow. Provided the cards not a complete dud, he'll be fine, I've already told him not to get his hopes up.

As for the eBay thing; I'm 17, he's sans-credit card at 18, and both our parents are technophobes who refuse to put credit card info in over the tubes. So anywhere I cant order over the phone with a debit card is out for the next few months

I dont mean to bang on about the 6600, but you could perhaps arrange for a cheque or money order if the seller agrees to post it once it clears ??

Perhaps, I'll talk it over with him tomorrow. If I did go the eBay route it would probably be to get the 9600 as the 6600 is PCI-e and would break his budget with p&p. The advantage of getting it with scan is the shipping would be minimal with the rest of the stuff I'm getting.

I've heard that if you can saw off the ends of a PCI slot, you can use a PCI-e card in it, but he is far too protective of his new PC to let me near it with a dremel!

EDIT EDIT: Disregard that: I'm a retard

EDIT: Looks like the seller only wants paypal...
