Little vista help... :)

Thread Starter
Hey people, before flaming Vista sucks... I need help on something.
I experience lockups whenever there is a really high HDD activity, such as downloading files and uploading files at once, or sometimes when downloading/installing things at once, or sometimes to transfer big files from one location to another. Anyone experiences this? I am on Vista 32-bit, all patches/updates appliced, Virus free.

(OFF-TOPIC: I don't know about you other people in Chicago, but the storm is shaking my house lol)

I read about this too, but I would like to know if I'm the only one in this situation. I mean, it runs really really smooth, except when downloading/uploading mass amount of data. It may be the fact that I have a 8800GTX, anyway, it's more an annoyance than a problem, because when I talk about big files, I mean multiple download of 150MB files and such, so that's only once in a while.

just a random thought.... is DMA mode enabled and running optimally on ur HDD?

Where can I check if it's enabled, in BIOS?
Also, after doing some good reading, it seems that it's nVidia to blame, because they tested the Raptors with a X1900XT, no problems, Raptors with 8800, lockups... So perhaps when I'll be back from Europe in 2 months, nVidia new drivers will have adressed this problem...

No, I have very fast transfers, but when there is a big HDD activity, the computer might lockup (completly freeze) for 10 seconds to 1 minute.

it's under the the device manager and the primary, secondary, etc. IDE controllers...

but It seems it is Nvidia's drivers from what you tell me... Make sure your drivers are all completly up to date.
