Just got this cooler

Hey everybody...I work at a local grocery store, and they were throwing away one of their little mini coolers...you know, the ones that usually have cookie dough and such in them...the small box shaped ones that are rollable. Well, I said i would take it off their hands, so they gave it to me...

After looking at it, there seemed to be nothing wrong with it, except that it was really dirty. So, i took a damp cloth and worked off all of the mildew and crap growing on the inside of it, and now it is white...i also cleaned the air duct that had cob webs and such in it...

Plugged the sucker in, and to my surprise, it didn't explode in my face. I've had it on for about 30 minutes or so, and at first the thermometer inside showed80F (my room temp) but now, it's around 60F. I know this thing isn't run by a compressor, because all i hear is a fan. I can see a big heat sink inside it, and it has 2 or 3 pretty big (120-140mm) fans pulling air in through the bottom, and pushing it out over the heatsink on the side.

Now, it does not have a top, because i had to break that part off, because it was half broken in the first place, and it also had some lights and a little speaker that went hoo-hoo when you walked by it...lol.

I've got my two kicker amp boxes over the top of it right now to keep the cool in...

Right now, I am going to see if it is going to burn out or not...but i am still trying to figure out what to do with it..Might use it as a refrigerators or freezer depending on how cold it will go. The only thing i can't figure out is if it has a thermostat on it...I guess i will find out when it gets to it's lowest possible temperature. Anyone know what this thing could be using to cool it? Maybe some sort of TEC setup or something? OH, one more thing...it doesn't have a big fan or anything pumping air to the inside of it...it's just got little holes on inside top part of it...not much air coming through, but the bottom of the thing is cold on the inside...

I'll post some pics in a minute!

I just have to say it (at the risk of being accused of making a bad pun again):

Okay, here are some pics...i should have taken some before i got it cleaned up...it was pretty bad, lol.

Not really sure what those wires are on the side of the cooler...but the wires on the floor all around it are for the top panel (which i took off...they powered the lights and that little speaker)

I was just trying to see if anyone had ever worked with one of these things and maybe modded it into some type of extreme cooler. I'm not sure how cold it is actually going to get.

Otherwise, i am gonna see if this thing works as a freezer, lol. I dunno, i've never experimented with any other type of cooling for computers except air...I've always wanted to, but too much $$ but they just gave me this thing, so i thought i might give it a shot to see what it could do!

I would not put any electronics in it. Condensation would form and fry whatever was in there.

For free, I would have taken it also, for what, who knows, pretty much same as you.

Yeah, i am gonna see what is gonna happen, but you are right...the cold on the inside would form condensation as soon as i opened it up...

Right now i am seeing what it can get down to...then i will probably go from there on what i will do with it...oh and whether or not it burns out, lol
