Well I'm getting a new Brisbane/8800 rig in a couple weeks, so this Socket A rig isnt too important to me (P3 Katmai sig rig should hold me for that long ). I just wish I could get a screen of my pcmark03 so I could get into the top AGP systems..

wow - tough one.

Well here's what - give your mobo a drain - put the Cmos jumpers on reset, and plug off the PSU completly.
Leave it for a few hours.

In the mean while you can get an old toothbrush and brush out the RAM and PCI slots thoroughly.
+ take an erasor(normal erasor - preferably the rubbery ones, rather than the more grany ones) and rubb off the contact of your RAm.
EVEN IF it doesnt seem dirty - just rub them thoroughly.
Also, dab the brush with some alchohol, and clean the RAM slot again, and then the RAM modules.

(everything should be dry by the hours-long power drain)

also - remember to make sure that all the other new parts that you're carring in to test. ARE IN FACT (try them AGAIN).. fully functional.

trouble shooting doesnt help when you tools are dead

good luck man.

Nope, scrubbed and cleaned everything, cleared the cmos, but no luck. I tried a spare video card and ram but that doesn't work either. Any other ideas?

Well. If you're sure you cleaned ALL teh mobo slots well.
Disconnected EVERYTHING but the monitor cable (NO NICs ect)

Tried different memory and graphics, as well as CPU. (did you?)
Then your MOBO is probably buggered.

Are you sure nothing is shorting on teh underside of your board?
Did you try another PSU?

I don't have another Socket A chip to test the board, any other ways? Would leaving the CPU out and turning the rig on do anything, like beep? I ripped the entire computer apart a few days ago to inspect the board, so nothing should be shorting it out. I tried another working PSU today, but no luck. I did notice, around the edges of the CPU die, that there's black stuff going up about half ways up the side (Didn't notice that when I first got it brand new, is that bad??). I'm not sure why my mobo would konk out on me, my oc would have only been pushing the NB ~10Mhz higher than stock, with active cooling too..
