e6600 temp

Thread Starter
I am a complete noob when it comes to computers but I just recently built a new computer and my e6600 is running at 60C now is that normal. I do want to add the fact that my computer is in a hot room with bad air conditioning just fyi.

More details!
Is it overclocked?
What are you using to measure temp?
Is 60C under load?
What about hardware - mobo, cooler etc.

As it is 60C is near the top of the range. Intel says core damage can occur at 68C.

60c for idle is really bad, 60c for full load is not good. 33c for idle and 48-50c for full load will be the ideal (overclocked to at least 3.0ghz)

Basically, you either have installed the heat-sink/fan not properly or the hsf has not locked in, in either of the 4 pins.

My room is at 77f right now and my CPU is idling at 34c, but at 70f, it idles at 32c, so even on a hot room, that hsf is not doing its job.

60C... Are you using the stock heat sink? If so,

Make sure that all of the arrows on the pin tabs are facing away/out from the heat sink. When it's facing/pointing toward the heat sink, it is unlock. So what you want to do is take it apart, set all pins into lock and then mount it from there. Doing that is easier than unlocking it, mounting it, and then locking it.

Keep in mind that the plastic piece at the bottom can also be bent outward. Just push them back together.
