Intel Core 2 Duo Has 'Non-Fixable' Bugs, OpenBSD Founder Alleges - Page 7

Dont think these bugs will affect the stability of the chips (perhaps in the 1/260000 of a chance - extreme condition/ event)..

What I think it will affect (as teh article says) is what a virus can do a a system...

Millions upon millions of Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quads have been sold in the preceding year. I have yet to see any report of problems with the processor.

That was great. Don't forget to mention the SuperPi scores.

Then you would have a same speed CPU with no security loop holes

They did respond, they released a patch to fix a few errors.

Okay. Great.

Maybe you should read what the non-fixable bug's really are and how they affect your CPU

People are going to be all over these bug's like virus's and windows.

If I had a C2D I would try to get my money back and when the next line of fixed CPU's come out get one of them.
People are going to be all over these bug's just like they were on Netburst and K8 right?

Name 1 system integrity issue caused by these errata.

didnt read the whole thread but heres my thoughts.

I see a "placebo" effect happing here. We all have had our e6600's or what not for a year now and not ONE of us has reported a problem. So all of a sudden somebody reports "bugs" that nobody has explained to me yet and everybody flips out about it, well it seems at least AMD fanboys are flipping out about it. Really, all of a sudden somebody says "OMG C2D has flaws". Until today, nobody every thought of this happening. Really, it seems that this is a poor attempt to flame Intel.....

Why don't we start simply. If someone can actually explain the problem to me, and the symptoms it includes, I'll think about retracting my statements

  1. There is no perfect product.
  2. Intel should respond to these claims, & they should respond fast. If OpenBSD Founder says that there are 20 to 30 of such bug it should be considered a serious matter. Or then many people would consider Intel as an arrogant company.
  3. If these claims turn out to be true, I guess it would only affect the enterprise sector, where security & availability are the highest priority.
  4. For me personally if I wanted to buy a laptop I'll get a C2D & If I wanted a server I'll get an AMD Opteron.
  5. Still from the desktop perspective E6600 has the best Price/Performance Ratio at the moment.

Thank You

look back one page, you can see the non-fixables as for the ill-footed AMD flame, "A microcode reliability update is available that improves the reliability of systems that use Intel processors" why would Microshaft flame intel?

Seeing as though you are not a computer engineer or a software engineer, I do not think you are in the place to explain to us what the microcode update was. Unless you think you are qualified...

Do you guys want us to look like a bunch of ignorant fools? If I were from another forum and I was reading this.....

If you have a claim, please back it up. If you cannot back up your claim, state it as your opinion or "something I have noticed". Anybody can tell me that something sucks. An educated group of people can explain what is going on.

Description of the Microcode Update Device

The Microcode Update device is an interface between the operating system and an Intel processor based on the x86 architecture. This device provides the latest microcode updates for the processor if the BIOS does not already contain this information.

source: microsoft

yet it seems like a ignorable matter, but it's not
