Yellow dog linux questions.

Thread Starter
Well I hope to soon install YLD however before I do I have a couple of questions first.

1. When I format the HDD do i just lose my music/movies/gamesaves ? Or do I lose anything else rather important.

2. I can back up game saves onto a USB stick...Is this correct ?

3. At current I have an SDTV ( really low resolution ), Will I still be able to run YDL even if it looks rubbish ?.

Any other advice would be great. Thanks.

1. yes, you have to reformat the whole HDD to use the partitioner sony has on the PS3, also keep in mind that it will only create a 10GB partition, but you can decide if you give the 10 GB to YDL or the XMB.

2. yes, i make backups of most of my game saves

3. i believe YDL is created for both SDTV and HDTV

Well does the reformat reset my settings. I know I will still keep the newer firmware but wondered if it reset my settings.

It seems with YDL as I only have an SDTV I can only use the TEXT version until i get a screen that can run 720p then i can have the GUI.

Cheers for the help so far guys.

Yes, YDL will look pretty bad due to the low res of SDTV and without the GUI interface and all. The text will be really fuzzy and may cause headaches. Hell, it's hard enough to read it on a 50" plasma with the GUI and all.

If you have $600 burning a hole in your pocket, here's a GREAT solution:

27.5" of 1080p goodness with HDCP compatibility, 1920x1200 resolution, and HDMI so you can plug it directly into the PS3. *Drool*

Well since Ive been doing alot of research and have now got the knowledge to set it all up. I will be able to have a GUI on so thats FAB so it shouldnt look to aweful lol. I just now need to borrow the USB keyboard from my PC to set it all up.

Im guessing the MAX partition size I can have for YDL is 10GB really. I want more for the XMB of course, Is there no way of setting perhaps 20GB for YDL ?

Thanks.

sadly, its limited to only a 10GB partition. i really wish it was more flexible
