Idle PCs Waste Electricity - Page 7

Ahhh.... you can't use your local temperature to "prove" global warming is occuring. Your local area temperature makes up like what.... .1% of the land area of the earth? Also, unless you map the data out... are you basing it on what you remember feeling? Since almost everyone here is younger than 50 yrs old, you don't have even close to enough data. Local weather patterns also do change. Global warming takes the global average temperature.
Once again...

I agree, Global warming is happening. Should we care? Not really. There is only so much you can do as an individual.

Quote:
Average temperatures have climbed 1.4 degrees Fahrenheit (0.8 degree Celsius) around the world since 1880, much of this in recent decades, according to NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies.
To stop global warming you would have to cool earth's core down and stop volcanic activity

Quote:
Explosive eruptions can inject large quantities of dust and gaseous
material (such as sulfur dioxide) into the upper atmosphere (the
stratosphere - see Figure 1.1, section 1.2.2), where sulphur dioxide is
rapidly converted into sulphuric acid aerosols. Whereas volcanic pollution
of the lower atmosphere is removed within days by the effects of rainfall
and gravity, stratospheric pollution may remain there for several years,
gradually spreading to cover much of the globe.
I think Volcanic activity makes up 60% of Green House gases.

Quote:
Volcanic gases also severely damage vegetation. Direct exposure to concentrated volcanic gas or long-term exposure to dilute volcanic gas is lethal to most types of foliage. Since 1990, areas of dying forest around Mammoth Mountain have grown in size and number because of high concentrations of carbon dioxide in the soils and now occupy more than 100 acres.
etc etc.

it's all theory, when it starts snowing here in July I'll be concerned.

Well let me tell you something, your 'believing' can only go so far; it contradicts the fundamentals of scientific thought and goes back to primitive superstitions/logic without thinking (which cannot exist in any state of truth)

We are not 'throwing' facts at you in any sort of a harassing way, but scientists are just doing their job -- and coming out with facts. Just because you cannot change your opinion and its set in stone and you will NEVER change your opinion EVEN IF YOU KNOW YOU ARE WRONG (which you implied you would knowingly in your statement here); facts are facts.

Artificial, small environments have been constructed and this same detrimental effect of CO2 and other greenhouse gases (CH4, SO2) on O3 is very evident. O3 levels cannot be faked; they are measured. When I measure your height, i get a fact. A number. It is used in conventional thinking to visualize height; and the number corresponds to a certain one-dimensional length. Just because you THINK or BELIEVE you are 7 feet tall, doesn't mean you are 7 feet tall.

At the same time, real, large environments have been studied since FAR BEFORE you or I were born. There is a steady, constant, temperature fluctuation that geologists prove abnormal within our Earth's 6 bil years.

I'm not claiming anything valid. I'm just stating what I've seen/felt/heard. Maybe if YOU opened YOUR eyes to what I'm saying you'd understand. Look at you. You're a GREAT example of what I'm talking about. People today believe what they want and will keep with a closed mind.

Exactly, facts are facts. There are facts to prove that global warming IS and ISN'T happening. I think I'd rather look at the evidence that takes ALL accounts. 1100's-1400 was a hot period, 1940's-1970's was a freezing period, and 1970's-today is going to be yet another hot period. These are just SOME points of my arguement.

Thank you for summing this entire argument up in one sentence. Just because someone who has power thinks global warming is happening doesn't mean it is.
