Tell you what. If Barcelona is 50% clock for clock faster than Core 2 Duo, I will smash my processor with a hammer.
It means that we don't know whether it will or not. You're dead-set that it won't be, because, well you're a fanboy. AMD fanboys are sure it will. The rest of us don't know, because we don't have any facts one way or the other.

Pauldovi isn't a fanboy... but he's damn close.

Paul is NOT a fanboy.

Show me one part in his rig that suggests fanboyism. He bought the best parts that offer the most performance for his price range.

But really, Barcelona will have to perform 50% faster clock for clock than the upcoming 3.0Ghz C2D. And remember, the Intel will cost $266. In my opinion AMD will charge a bit more than that on their top-dog.

Overclocking might be a problem. I loved my Opteron 165 for how good it is at overclocking, yet it can't beat the C2D. I'm just worried that even if Barcelona can beat C2Q's on a lower clock speed, the C2Q's can pull ahead when both are overclocked to the max. According to recent news, AMD is really having some trouble in getting the clock speed up so I wouldn't look forward to it as an overclocker.

You don't think it is reasonable to expect Barcelona to perform less than 50% clock for clock when the only benchmarks we have show it slower than Core 2 clock for clock?

It is 100% unreasonable to expect Barcelona to be 50% clock for clock faster than Core 2. That has nothing to do with being any sort of fanboy. That is called logic.

Someone disagreeing with you is not grounds for calling them a fanboy. Someone posting a valid argument does not make them a fanboy.

Someone ignoring logic does make them a fanboy.

I'm confident that we'll see huge improvements over the current K8 arch. So what if it doesn't scale well yet, it will improve. If the new arch outperforms Core 2, I'm happy, it doesn't have to be 50%, but I expect it to be outperform clock for clock. If they launch at 2.0ghz, so what, if the arch is more efficient, that's all that matters to me. They'll eventually hit the clock speeds they need to regain any "crown", if that's what they're after. I'm excited because either way it goes down, by the time we do see desktop quads from amd, we'll already have a cheap C2Q from intel as an option. Desktop quad core for the masses with reasonable power requirements. I'm not expecting a miracle, but I am keeping a glimmer of hope that AMD will hit some magic stepping, and punch out a few desktop K10's before the end of the year.

So, a release in august, when do you think we'll see some preliminary benchmarks?
