Grim - I got a SCARE!

Man - I almost started crying just a few seconds ago!

Have you ever had some.. REALLY important data. that.. was allmost irreplacable, probably because of the sentiments (pictures/ other media) or because of the time it took to make/gather ALL of that ? (webpages/software)

Have you ever had a fairly large collection of compressed programs? :|

Well, I swore I lost all that a while ago!

About last week or so, I had 2 drives die on me - due to my PSU.
A 4GB which wasnt a HORRIBLE loss, and my 30GB with the said kind of data

Just a while ago - my trusty 30GB maxtor (last one) made some beeps when I turned on the PC - made *power coming and going* noises, and then the PC shut off!

When I turned it back on - more or less the same thing.

sO I took out power (knowing how the leads on my dam PSU is) and the PC turned on fine (of course). But my HDD wasnt working! - MY LIIIFE's collection of important data!

But it back in - same.
Turns out the leads on that leg of PSU connectors are Icky - and are prolly evern shorting (hence the drive beeping, and hence the PSU shutting itself Off).

Changed them - bend the faulty IDE cable a few times - and it came back up.

I'm taking this thing OUT of this dam rig!

I dont know how I'll cope with the measly 4GB thats left.
But I sure as hell wont let anything happen to THIS drive! :|

Yeah it sucks. I've lost more data in the past week because of a fan missing a blade causing my HD to go screwy than I ever have since I've had my computer.
That seems to be happened at the same time of us! My computer just instantly rebooted while running, and when it booted back up it said "RAID 0 array initialising - FAILED!", and I was like "OMG PLEEEEASE DON'T DIE". Funnily enough I just shut it down, tried to push the cables in (even if they were in, I think that fixed it), and turned it on again, *phew*

Glad it still works though

nice gonx!
We're lucky

But - do you actually store valuable data on a RAID array?
I mean - thats risky isnt it? :|

I know I certainly wouldnt - esp RAID 0!
Its best to just cotch your good stuph on a serperate drive ^_^

So how did that go Twisted??

(btw Gonx - nice OC on the sandy!, whats that. Almost 3GHZ on air!? )

Still awaiting the RMA... Lol.

Idk how, but the top 90mm fan on my Armor had a fan missing(I must've hit it or something when I was working on it) and the vibrations eventually caused the HD to go whack. I tried to reformat and it just wouldn't do it. And it was a nice WD too. Was only a 250GB Cavier but it's lasted... nearly 70 times longer than my old 120GB(week compared to a year and a half ).

RAID 1 and Raid 5 are great for storing important data because when one drive fails, you can jsut replace the failed drive with a new one and all your data has stayed intact because its mirrorred on the other disk. RAID 5 works slightly differently where its spread accross 3 disks, and if one fails the data on the remaining disks can be used to recreate the data lost on the failed disk.

It's not "save this or die" stuff, just general pr0nz and other downloads I've compiled over the years.

BTW. I got to 2950 MHz on it stable

ahh. I see, I get what you mean.

Those things, though important, could be gotten back from the internet right?
(though - I bet it would take a WHILE to get all that back).

Thats another one of the reasons why the data that died on the first drive, was sooo important.
I COULD DL them, but some of them are practically impossible to find, you know.
And some of them extremely hard to. Not to mention, that its a LOT.

(man - your sandy pwns. Whats the load/Idle temps case closed? )

I should save and get some though - and give to my friend (as well as teh HDD) so I can backup.

REALLY cant loose this stuff.
