Slow SATA 1.5Gb

Thread Starter
I got a new SATA 1.5 Gb/s HDD a couple weeks ago and I have a few questions.
First of all, is there a way to get new firmware for the Caviar RE2s from WD? I can't seem to find it if there is.
Secondly, I used HDTach to test the rates from my SATA HDD and it came back with a 130MB/s burst speed. If I am not mistaken, is the burst speed supposed to be the 150MB/s? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I just want the best performance possible out of this hard drive.
Thanks,
GibbyGano

That burst speed sounds fine for real world benchmarks

Hmm...just curious because HDTach show my burst is 20 MB/s below actualy SATA speeds on the graph.

Even though its rated at 150MB/s data cannot be accessed that fast unless you are running a RAID 0 config or have a higher rpm.

Update: I just ran it on my 160 gig drive and got 135MB/s, so its not just you. Also since yours has a lot of platters its going to be a little slower too. If you have the space I would suggest getting another one for RAID 0.
