Installed new Opteron now wont boot - Page 2

Been reading this for the last few minutes (before I clock out and take my car to the shop), and the problem may be bad RAM, or an unstable overclock (I still am unclear about whether or the system was at stock settings). I haven't finished reading the whole thread, but hopefully the lead to a solution is here somewhere.

I'll check back later.

Good luck, dude!

A question for the true gurus: If there was a problem with the RAM, would it even POST? Or are there "small" RAM issues that may enable POSTing, but trigger OS setup failures?

My guess is that something with the RAM (either the DIMMs themselves or maybe the DIMM slots) is shot.

Try switching RAM slots.

Anybody else with suggestions?

Try'd one ram stick at a time. First slot will just make repeatitive beeps with one stick second stick with same results. Second slot will get to BIOS with either stick. Third slot same results as the Second slot. Fourth slot same results as Second and Third. What are the chances that my board went bad.

Woahhh hold your horses before you reformat... I was just on the verge of reformatting when I found how to fix my problem that was similar to that. My computer would say the disk read error and crap like that but there was nothing wrong with the disk... I thought it may have been the humidity... but no. Although I did not find out how to do it after wasting my time once. I went through the whole process of fixing the system32 folder with the XP repair disk when really none of it needed to be touched. All it was, was when I opened my case and fiddles with stuff it was the stupid SATA cord I just moved it around and stuck it back on the HD and I was off and running. Then it did it another month or so down the road and I fiddled with the cord and from that day things are fine. This may not be the fix to your problem but it is a simple little thing that made no sense to do that I touched that fixed my problem. Just try it it may work for you?

If that doesn't work.. I'd try upping the VDIMM a hair. I agree with Joe. I think It's probably a RAM problem. What's your current VDIMM?

Well, it looks as if Slot 1 has gone belly-up.

Try things with the operational DIMM slots, and with only one stick. It'll slow things down a whole lot, but it should enable a successful reinstall.

Hope this works for you.

Everything is on stock. It does not make a difference raising voltage to anything it all yelds the same results. And still will not pick up anything attached to either EIDE ports not hard drives or cd roms. It will only pick up SATA's attached. There is nothing wrong with the ram just try'd them in another computer and they passed all test.
