how to paint a case

am trying to paint a metal case its a lil rough and i was wondering how to do it without bubbles smooth so it looks not half assed can anyone help me

sand it if you wish, to rough it up, bondo and sand again, prime, sand again, spray light coats a few times, then one good coat, but not heavy enough to run.

Paraphrasing of course.

Can you post a pic of the case? usually you start off with some 400, then work your way up to 1000 if you have the time and patience. Modding can be fast and dirty, or slow and purdy. Working on an old case is the best way to learn. I have a case right now that I got at the thrift store that I'm trying many things out on, to see how I like the ideas.

I have used this method on both plastic and metal. Just choose the right kind of paint for the job

I would start out with some 320 wet/dry on a sanding block. If that doesn't cut it, drop down to 220. Work your way back up to 320 . Prime. Sand again, this time using 400. If you wish to sand your color coats between each coat go with 600 grit or higher.

ETA:

I prefer wet sanding by the way.

Painting one right now. Let me give you one piece of advice.
FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS GOOD AND HOLY JUST POWDER-COAT THE THING! More money but WAY less trouble.
