Anyone got comcast?

Thread Starter
I'm wondering if anyone here has comcast. I live in houston and it appears that comcast is taking over. I currently have roadrunner 8mbps. But apparently i'll be getting 6mbps plus powerboost soon. That doesn't sound very good at all. I don't want bursts of powerboost speed, I want constant speed. Anyway, is comcast very good?

Good, then hopefully they'll automatically switch me to their premium. If I get 8 mbps down constant and 16mbps burst, then i'm fine.

We have moved quite a bit recently and have had three cable companies in the last year. Time Warner(new York), cablevision(new jersey) and now comcast(DC). Wish I could say there was a great difference between the three but Im our experience all provide similar service.

As far as comcast goes the internet service is good--consistanty high speeds, and no down time as of yet, the TV service is good as well. Good signal strength and HD reception, some down time with On Demand services.

I am sure you will be happy as we wait for FiOS to be available.

$52.95 Comcast will be taking over here too, ATM I have 10 down/1 up for 30$ a month.

Roadrunners 8mbps is like 60 bucks a month. With 512 kbps up. I'm going to like this cheaper service. I have another question though. If you're downloading large files, with this powerboost, like say a 700mb files. With this powerboost, with its speed bursts, how long will speed bursts last? Like will I get 2 MB/s for like 2 seconds and then have it drop back down to 1?

Either way, whenever fios is finished being installed in houston i'll be getting it.

Btw, nechen, fios is fiber optic cabling that's being installed in cities around the country. It'll be coming to houston with verizon's premium speed of 32 mbps and then two other speeds of 15 mbps and one lower one which I dont remember. The 32 mbps will be 180 dollars 15 mbps will be 50, and I don't know about the lowest service.

I called comcast and the rep broke powerboost down like this:

Cable is really fast but as most people know it is a shared connection so the more people you have on line in the area the slower everyone gets.

What I was told is that powerboost evens out this problem. The rep advised me that power boost really goes to work during peak internet usage times.
