Setting the volume...

Ok, im not sure where else to put this. But you all know my dual amplifier setup that i now have which is 2 car amplifiers running my sound stage.

Now, it all sounds great. But when its hooked up to my PC, i can control the volume better. However, when i hook it up into my liviing room where it sounds like a masterpeice, i dont have alot of volume control even when the amps are set to minium gain.

Its like, even if i have everything set to minium its blasting loud, it sounds amazing but its just way loud. Not that i dont like it, but others dont lol.

Im already running 16ohms on each channel, that should make it alot quieter, and i dont have any other speakers to increase impedance.

What can i do to make it quieter?

there are RCA adapters that lower the gain on the inputs. Just do a search or something

*edit, you might have better luck searching for a voltage divider.

Use a real mixer. You can get something like a sound craft mixer and use a DI box to lower the line level to mic level. then out put it through an aux send into the amplifier. of course you want to have a post fader aux. Pre fader aux will not allow you to fine tune the signal. I am sure I could figure out another way. This is just what I know will work.

You can search for line level attenuators. That is what it would be called. I use XLR attenuators all the time. I use DI boxes to reduce line to mic level, but the output is XLR not RCA.

Well, i finally found a headphone adapter so that i can hook my amps up to the reciever in the living room, works great now.

I think if i got another amp, i could run a full 5.1 surround with car audio in a house, and it would sound awsome.

Its only 2.1 right now, Sony amp powering 4 front speakers and the HiFonics powering a single 12" (the cone is really only 7inches) subwoofer built for car audio competition.

Giving the ratings on my PSU, i doubt if either amp is running about 150watts RMS if that, but it does sound amazing.

Thanks for the replies! I might look into getting these amps hooked up to something to help control the volume more.

I find it funny that they gold plate everything. The attenuators are designed to lower the level of the audio. most likely by resistance. So why gold plate the connectors?

I think i might buy me a few of them. I plan on using a third car audio amp to make it full surround sound if i can pick up 2-4 more speakers to run a good rear channel and the center speaker i would just run off the reciever.
