If I'm not mistaken, most retailers will have the serial number of the CPU on the receipt for that very reason. Besides, doing that is illegal.

I RMAed a Q6600 I puchased from EBay 3 months ago. It was the best RMA experience I have ever had.

I had the box, heatsink, and processor, that is all. You will need to return them all to Intel.

I called Intel using the number on there site. Told them that the CPU just stopped working after using it for a month and that it could not be returned to the original seller because it was past 30 days. This was all true btw. They asked for the number on the box, then had me read them some numbers from the CPU itself. They then sent me a RMA email along with a pending order for the replacement CPU. I made this call on a Friday. Shipped the CPU on Monday morning. The CPU arrived at Intel on Wed morning. They shipped out the new processor on Wed afternoon, and I had a new processor in my hands on Friday. They did not ask where I bought it. All that mattered was that it was Boxed Processor, not an OEM. If it is a Boxed Processor it has a 3 year warranty and Intel gave me no problems about returning it. I could only wish that other companies handled RMAs this quickly.

OEM and RETAIL MAKE A HUGE DIFFERENCE WHEN TRYING TO RMA!

OEM - Supported only by the distributor, reseller, whole seller, dealer, NOT INTEL! ..........Most of the time only for 3 months!

AMD - OEM - 6 Months

RETAIL ALL BRANDS - 3 YEARS! in most cases!

depends. if they are an authorized intel reseller then yes you would still have a warranty. if they are just some guy who sold it (even new in box) or an end user who sold a used one then they do not have a warranty for your uproduct.
fisrt thing I would do is see if he is an auth intel erseller. if not then you have to work out the return through him.

it's honestly not even really an intel thing a lot of companies have a policy of only offering warranty for a product bought through an authorized product seller.

owever if the Ebay seller does not offer protection from DOA or do their own warranty then i would look elsewere.
ebay isn't the seller of the item. they are just the place for all teh sellers to meet to sell thier wares.

In that case, its not a DOA, and yes, the warranty will not be there if you buy from Ebay, contacting the seller would be a good next step
depends on who the seller is. ebay is not the seller of the item. lets take for instance newegg used ebay to sell a cpu. the warranty would be just as valid going through ebay as going directly through newegg since newegg is teh actual seller and newegg is an auth seller

Ebay is not a certified retailer
ebay doesn't sell anything though... or do they? if they did that's new to me.
