Trouble formatting Maxtor Onetouch III

Thread Starter
The 320 GB external hard drive is formatted for Mac storage, so when I plug it into my computer it doesn't even show up in "My Computer" and isn't assigned a drive letter. How do I format this drive to NTFS?

It says on the box it supports Windows, but when I put in the install disk the autorun screen pops up then goes away... bleh.

EDIT: Found answer, Win + R -> "mmc" -> add disk management snap-in -> Fix it

Go to my computer, hardware, device manager. right click on your desktop's name and do SCAN FOR HARDWARE CHANGES. your computer MAY not be able to read it depending on what FORMAT you formated it as for MAC. there are special programs to read different partitions, google them depending on your partition type.

It maybe easier to do it in dos. Different ways of doing this:

- windows 98 boot floppy disk
- start windows xp installation and choose to format the external drive, when it starts copying windows files, reboot manually, then boot in your windows and you'll detect it since it'll be NTFS now.
- go to a mac, and choose to format to FAT32 (if possible) or FAT16 or just delete the partition all together then switch the HDD back to windows.
