Is there really a significant difference between a P4 and a Celeron?

Celerons and Semprons are P4's and Athlons with less L2. I don't understand the big difference.

less cache and MUCH lower FSB (thats what makes the big speed difference)

If your upgrade to a full gig you will probably have more luck, but I would recommend upgrading the graphics card as well. Maybe a 7600gt for like $80. That will make both games playable at reasonable settings.

Also, Gibby - I don't think its really necessary to show of how well your system plays the game when someone else is asking about theirs.

There is HUGE performance difference between Celeron and P4, the cache and FSB really give you what you pay for. The clockrate becomes a secondary measurement of performance.

Yeah, when I had a cely 2.8 back in the day and I made a new rig with a 2.4 P4 it performed way better.

Oh yeah there is a huge difference between P4 and Celeron. Believe it or not, Pentium 4 despite the heat were great CPUs and are still used a lot today, now why do they pwn Celerons:
-2MB L2 Cache as opposed to what, 512KB?
-Hyper-threading, better multitasking
-Mostly faster clocks, but not always true
-I believe they support more instructions such as EM64T, but maybe some Celerons do support it.

BUT, if we are talking about Conroe Celerons, then they are better than Pentium 4.

lol... playing FEAR on those specs must be painful. It'll be like watching a slideshow.
