TEC on e6600, worth it? - Page 3

There is no need for a TEC on any eXXXX.. Quads are okay but either way good WC and a good CPU block will do.

ive been doing something like that too. well... designing anyway. dont have the materials to build. (yet?)
and ever since i saw your V8 block i had an idea about a "true" V8 block.
the green square would be a 437W pelt.
a pump powerfull enough to do all 4 lines wouldnt be too hard to find.
using the rad of a large car, flow would not be restricted, and the setup could be relatively cheap.

yes it would be..more restrictive actually. I have a CRX radiator that i have been waiting to throw in my loop...Ira-k talked me down. It would require such a big pump and the pressure would still suck..maybe with two pumps..but big ones in line..you could do it...
a good pump would be needed anyway. i was thinking somewhere around 5000-8000 LPH for all 4 lines combined and say... up to 4-5 metres.
which is a medium sized pond-pump.
second hand i think they sell for around 50-100 bucks, depending on model and seller.

though i thought a car rad would be slightly less restrictive due to larger tubes. it would be a little less effective, but that would be made up for with huge-assness.
another reason why i thought this is because heatercores (which come from cars) are also used for PC cooling, and they just seem more restrictive to me.

That little Pelt I don't think would even start to cool a quad-core...I wouldn't even try it with anything less the a 437W...You run a pelt under-volted so it will be more efficient ....The quads put out a lot of heat...And that Pelt is only rated at 226W at full voltage...Take a look at this and you will see how much heat they do put out....I run my 320W at 12V which gives me about double the heat dissapation as my CPU puts out and that only keeps me in the low teens at full load

.....- Intel QX6700 Quad-Core CPU Heat Dump.......

^^^^LOL..V-8 is the version # of fstfrddy's blocks the V-8 stands for the latest version.......Oh yeah technically speaking what I was talking about with using a car rad would be pressure drop across the rad because of loss of water velocity, the same effect as restriction...

ahh. that makes sense. somehow... lol.

any comments on the block-design though? i like to have my crazy-overkill and sometimes useless ideas outperform any sane and normal idea.

BTW, who is that fstfrddy? he a member here?

idont have a quad core. i have a dual core e6600. It puts out 60 watts of heat, with an ambient temp of 80 F. how can a 226watt pelt not be enogh

No... Core 2 Duo at stock have a 69w TDP. However, when you overclock it, you are looking at 80-90w of heat. The 226w TEC will do fine but you probably won't get subzero temps under load.

Oh OK Ithought you had a quad for some reason...You might want to get a 320W pelt for it...You can get them on flea-bay for less then $20 bux you would need a decent PSU for it...I just made mine out of a old crappy Ultra and its held up good now for a couple of months..Mine runs at 12V the 320W Pelt runs at up to 15V, so at 12v I'm pulling 235W...A 226W 15V Pelt at 12V would only be 140.9W....I'm OC'ed on my daily OC at 3119mhz at 1.552V-Core and I load at around 13C Priming for a while and idle at a few C below 0 if it sits idle for a few minutes...I'm not satisfied with the 320W at all and I'm in the process of going to a 437W rig....Just from my own limited experience with them I would suggest at least a 320W one...

I believe the 320w TECs on eBay are 320w power consumption and 245w work? Did you get an ampmeter reading off yours?
