Vista questions

Thread Starter
I should receive my copy of Vista Ultimate soon, and I am debating if I should install it or not. I hear that it's faster than XP because of the pre-fetching and stuff, right? So would it perform better than XP in photoshop, dreamweaver, flash pro, and those kinds of apps? And how about gaming, will I lose more than 5 fps?

And please, no answers from the people who don't have vista and say that it sucks, because I need facts not opinions.

Thanks

I lost a few of my FPS (5-10) on CS:S with Vista but other than that it's a pretty stable OS. I think it's definitely worth upgrading!

I am just about to reformat and install Vista again. I have Home Premium and at first I hated it because I had 1gb ram but once I got 2gb its soo much nicer. I love the look and layout, I lost about 5fps in CSS and haven't tried many other games. But I think Crysis is only on Vista so I have to have it!!! I love Vista XP is great but I guess if you want the best performance for your sig rig I would stay with XP till you get a bigger HDD and better cpu.

I've had fine gameplay in Vista, synthetics is a different story.
Shot of a little BF2/2142 comparison I did between XP and Vista.

Gaming is generally on par with XP. SOMETIMES it will perform slightly worse. You might want more RAM depending on what you do. A new rig will help you

Well, I have Vista 64bit and XP both installed (dual boot) and I'd have to say that Vista is slower than XP in games and its slower overall cause its a resource hog.

You basically hit the nail on the head in your original post. It's better at memory managment and startup times but you might lose a few frames per second in games.

I get basically the same performance in Vista as XP, and Vista seems solid. It never crashes, anything of that sort. Everything has drivers out for Vista now, as well. So that's not an issue either. Vista is simple to use albeit slightly different than XP at times, so it takes a little getting used to, but it's worth it. Vista is a solid OS, and it performs well. I highly recommend it.
