Noob, XPS 600 Pentium D 920 2.8ghz

Thread Starter
Hello, I don't know if I posted the thread at the wrong forum or not but I have a question on overclocking my current PC XPS 600.

I got this pc when 7800gtx SLI came out, about almost 2-3years. I think this pc is a lil slow for my gaming stuff and I don't have any budget for a new PC. I was wondering if theres anything I can do to make it go faster like OC'ing. I tried to search on the webs but didn't get a good answer. I heard they said you can't OC' with dell's motherboard or bios so i'm really confused. Can someone please help me out? I'm also a foreign student from China so my grammer isn't too good. Hope you guys get the point.

i dont think you can overclock on the older dells, but you can try and find a program that will let you overclock for windows or what ever OS you have,it is not going to be a very good OC ether and your not going to get very high,

To see if clock gen will work you will need to open your computer and find out what PLL you have,It should be on a chip next to a meatal cap down nere the southbridge, there are only a hand full if PLL makers and it should have a company name in the chip,i would copy down the numbers and everthing form the chip and try to find it on the list in the program,if you cant find it try to find one that is close and is if the same brand.

theres a button called PLL
they are called PHASE LOCKED LOOPS.

Also if you are having truble finding you PLL number here is a guid on how to find it.

Good luck.

Sorry for the confusion, I meant the PLL control by saying PLL panel. I can open the PPL control, below where says Clock generator setup is choosing Nvidia nForce4 already it won't let me drop down the option or anything I'm guessing is already choosed for me. When I said it won't let me apply I was talking about the PLL control, the bars to move around to change the FBS, when I increase or decrease and trys to apply selection. It just restore the orginal setting.

You should really get some more RAM for that system. I think it's still good to handle a lot of games out there but 256MB of RAM won't cut it!

Yup, Dells mobo reset your PC if they sense their being scanned for a PLL to stop you overclocking. Don't ya love Dell?
